Welcome All New and Returning Coaches!

The coaching coordinator is Mike Berger.  Watch for updates from Mike.  He can be reached at coaches@nysl.org or napasoccer@rocketmail.com .

Hello 2012 Soccer Coaches,
Please see the attached updated 2012 NYSL Calendar and note the following:
  1. NYSL Fall Program:  Runs from 8/13 to 9/9, 7 days a week at Pueblo Vista.  Team Trainings are M-F at your scheduled time, one day a week and these team trainings will/should take priority over your regularly scheduled midweek practices.  If you, as the coach, can't make one team training, have the team go with the assistant coach.  VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The Coach Binder with the signed releases will have to be at the midweek team trainings, no exceptions.  Coaches do not have to attend weekend clinics, but they can for their information/to observe.  The weekend clinics are going to be the trainers working with/training the kids in the topics listed on the schedule that has been sent to all coaches.  Coach attendance is not required at the weekend clinics, but get the kids out to the sessions to promote their development.  One exception: Coach Trainings offered on 8/19 and 8/25 THESE ARE FOR YOU and NYSL would like you to attend if you can make it.
  2. Preseason Jamboree's: These will be an all day event.  The kids will be playing 3 games of soccer (minimum) and schedules will be distributed very soon.  You will be contacted shortly about your teams participation so get a commitment from the parents right away so when you are contacted about playing in the jamboree, you can give us an answer.
  3. Team Name: Talk to the team and come up with a team name.  This year we will add the team names into the schedule.  In the past it has been a default ID and if we don't get a name we will use the default ID.  Please don't send me the team name until I request it.
  4. Age Appropriate Rules:  If you have any questions about how the age division you are in is played (rules), please go to the NYSL website at NYSL.org and click on the "Rules" link.
If you still have a question or two, don't worry as myself or another Board Member will be at the Fall Program next week and able to answer questions,
Mike Berger

New Fall Training Program (FTP)

Coaches, please get the word out to the parents about both the midweek practice sessions, at the timeslot you signed up for, and the free weekend clinics with the Challenger trainers.

As you can see from the attached midweek schedules, some of the practice sessions are full and some are only half full or less. If you are in a full session, please consider changing to a time slot with less teams as this will result in your team getting more time with the trainers. If I get 4 coaches from any age division that want to move to an open day from a full session, I will try to accommodate this request. If you, as a coach, can't make one of the midweek practice sessions for whatever reason make sure that your team shows up regardless. NYSL's goal is to have the coach and team at these sessions, but having the kids there is good also. Remember, all the midweek trainings, weekend clinics and play dates are free to NYSL Coaches and Players.

Also note and try to attend the free Coach Trainings that are being offered on the first two weekends of the Fall Program. Training goalies during the season can be time consuming and usually takes a special practice session by the coach and goalie(s) to work on these specialized skills. This year, CHALLENGER TRAINERS WILL DO IT FOR YOU!! Take advantage of these free clinics on the weekends.
